Data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in London last week show August van and truck registrations at 9,386 and at 242,118 for the rolling year, down 37.5%. Within that total only 1,855 trucks were registered in the month and the rolling year total is now 41,790, down 28.6%. Vans hit 7,531 for the month, taking the rolling year total to 200,328, also 28.6% down. "August van and truck registrations fell again," said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. "Truck and van markers face exceptionally tough trading conditions and uncertain demand. Businesses' own need for new vehicles are well down too. We expect van and truck registrations will stabilise at around 45% down on last year."
